Through out your passage, you said fasting is what the Prophet taught us to do on the day of "Ashura" because the Jews did it? Why did the Prophet emphasize? What was so important about that day? Did the prophet not tell us? 2. Like stated by a brother earlier, fasting marks a happy occasion (barkat) - like the month of Ramadhan is a month of blessing? Can you specify if the Prophet specified that Ashura was a day or blessing? - Also please specify the authenticity of the ahadith you mentioned in your column.
